Not a good start on Sunday with 2 of our 3 Wilson Cup (Triples) teams failing to get through the first round, with Calne A losing to Spencer Melksham (13-19) and Calne B losing to Spencer Moulton Indians (17-24). That leaves Calne C (Barry W) who got a bye in the first round.
On Monday the North Wilts Mixed team played Trowbridge Town at home and came out 50-43 winners (8-2 points), we are still second but only on shot difference now.
As the ladies were away on Tuesday (see below) it was left to others to organise Club Night, good turnout with another possible new member.
The ladies are having a rest this week as well, no league games for them,
However they did play in the Benevolent Triples and did very well, here is Martha’s report with a photo of the happy ladies.
Report on the Benevolent Triples games at Stratton Church way Swindon
Two teams played in the above. Martha, Sheila and Mayumi started off. Their first game was against Pewsey after getting a bye in the first round and we won. Mayumi played lead and her contribution was excellent as it was only her second full game. Pleased to have you on board Star!
Yvonne, Jan & Pam were handed two byes so sat about for a while. When they got to their game, they found it was against North Wilts and came out winners. Their next game has been carried forward to 11th July at Highworth.
Good luck to you all. The spirit of this competition was wonderful and so friendly.
Thursday the men in the Mid Wilts Triples were at home to Devizes Kennet, and managed a 76-44 win (14-0). As a result of this win and Trowbridge Town dropping 4points against Trowbridge Westbourne, we are now top of the division by 2 points with a better shot difference.
The game against Trowbridge Town at Calne next week should be interesting!
Saturday 30th Calne Summer Carnival. Whilst the Club were unable to join in, at least one of our members enjoyed themselves, doing what he does best, having fun with the ladies! GO NORMAN!
Another interesting week ahead.
