w/c 14th July 2019, another hot week with showers forecast for the end of the week

Sunday evening, a men’s triples team, made up of Barry W, Paul M and Derek N took on Chippenham Town in the Wilson Cup, unfortunately it went to a 19th end which Calne lost, hard luck lads better luck next year.

Monday the North Wilts mixed team was away to Bradford-on-Avon and unfortunately lost, 45-52 (2-8pts). However the one winning rink was our Rod’s, well done, knew you could do it!!

Tuesday, after 2 defeats in a row the men’s West Wilts senior league (T&B), the men  were away to Broughton Gifford. It was a very hot day, but Calne went 7-0 up after 2 ends and never gave up the lead, winning 19-16, keeping top position in the league.

In the evening, in very hot conditions our ladies faced Broughton Gifford for our last home league match. This match was thrilling as the scores favoured first the away team and then the home team. However, we lost by 3 shots overall. One rink drew so we get 1 point. Better than last time we played as they took all the points. Well done everybody. Lets look forward to our next match.

On Tuesday as well as the ladies game it is Club Night, when welcome new or existing bowlers to join the club, if you think you may enjoy the game of bowls, come and have 3 weekly sessions FREE! Just bring flat shoes, starts at 5-30.

On Wednesday 3 ladies teams were in the BW Coronation triples. 1 team playing at Highworth and 2 teams at Pewsey.  The 2 teams at Pewsey had a most enjoyable but hot day. The format was 3 matches of 6 ends each. Both Calne teams won two and lost one. Our last encounter was unfortunatly against one another. Our scores were not high enough to get us into the prizes. The ladies at the Highworth venue did very well and narrowly missed top spot, by just 1 point. They came out runners up and won £5 each. Well done Martha, Josie and Mayumi

Calne Ladies at Pewsey Bowls Club Coronation Triples day
