On Monday the North Wilts Mixed team played Chippenham Town at home, unfortunately it did not turn out well, the Chippenham Town team winning 72-43 (10-0pts), In the evening David John won his Singles competition to progress to the last 16 in the Wiltshire National singles competition, next game Friday evening 6-30pm at Holt, supporters would be welcome, all being well I shall be there.
Tuesday West Wilts seniors team was at home against Warminster Wolves, The Calne side got off to a bad start, but rallied at the end only losing 24-18.
On Wednesday 10th the ladies entertained Avon Astras in a Nor West league match. A well fought battle saw Calne ladies achieve a win on both rinks. Although the winning margin was only 37 – 35 it gave Calne all 6 points. The ladies had a lovely afternoon playing in the high heat of the day. Brilliant effort by all those taking part..
This was followed on Thursday with Yvonne heading to Highworth with a 2 wood triples team in the 3rd round of the national Benevolent triples competition. Despite a defeat by a very good (and young) Supermarine team we enjoyed the experience. We all felt that we had played well and we certainly did not let ourselves down. It was good to see Calne ladies on the County scene. A superb effort.
Thursday the men were at home to Spencer Melksham B, from the start there was no doubt that Calne were on top form and they ended up winning by 77-62 (12-2 on points), we await the league this week with anticipation.Well done lads
On Friday Sheila played in the Champion of Champions away at Wootton Basset bowls club. Unfortunately Sheila did not progress to the next round, but well done Sheila for taking part in the competition.
Friday David Johns was at Holt in the first round of the last 16 in the National Singles competition, he was up against Matt Tucker and in a close game lost 21-16, hard luck David, but well done for getting into the last 16 again
