Another weekend 18th/19th Sept and the last 2 finals

On the evening of the 18th  the 2 Wood final between Ian  and David took place, a return match after a previous final, unfortunately Ian lost again 10-16, but he is snapping at David’s heels so next year look out David.

No photos available I am afraid, they were camera shy!

Next came the Ladies 101-up final on the 19th between Josie and Yvonne, the result was a win for Yvonne 104-76.

At least the ladies were not camera shy!

Sept 12th/13th 3 more finals

Firstly on the morning of the 12th it was the Paul Mackie mixed singles, between Last nights runner up in the Gunning cup – Ian and our coach Roy.

It proved to be a tough match with Ian gaining an early lead after 4 ends, but Roy fought back and once he got in the lead he did not relinquish it, eventually winning 17-9, congratulations to Roy sand commiserations, again to Ian.

But Ian still has a chance of winning a final, he is playing David in the final of the 2 Wood singles on Friday 18th Sept

In the afternoon of the 12th, Mark and Martin S took on Barry W and David in the Men’ Pairs competition.

There was a point nearing the end when David Johns had the chance to level the scores, but it was not to happen and Martin S and Mark ran out winners

Sunday 13th and the Ladies took to the green in the evening, Ann B & Mary C took on Sheila & Mayumi in the Ladies Pairs, the game was a close one with Sheila and Mayumi winning 20-15.

Exciting Men’s Gunning Cup Final Sept 11th 2020

David and Ian squared up tonight to see who would be triumphant, it was an exciting game

When they reached the 26th end the score was 20-18 to Ian, but on the 27th end with Ian holding shot, David took the jack to score 3 and run out 21-20 winner, well done David and Ian there is always next year.

September afternoon at the club

Very busy afternoon, Delayed Pairs quarter final with Angela C & Carole beating Jan & Rita on the last end, alongside a Paul Mackie Trophy game ended with Roy beating Mary B, and on the other rink some new members had a roll-up, supervised by Mary C.

Busy afternoon at the club, Ladies Pairs and Paul Mackie mixed competitions, along with roll-ups for new members.

Aussie Pairs final Friday 28th August Result

Amid the rain and rolling clouds, the 2 teams took to the rinks, rink 6 was the one that would prove the battleground, in the end it was not the close game that was expected, with Martin and Mark winning on the 11th end 17-1. Congratulation to them for such a convincing win.

However it should be pointed out that Barry W was playing left handed due to a recent injury to his shoulder, whilst he was able to bowl and take part, he was nowhere near the normal high standard of bowling he demands of himself.

In the meantime here are some before, during and after pictures, thanks to Martin S and Jan.

News update from the home of the Owls 27th August 2020

It is 4-40pm, the rain is very heavy, thunder is rolling around the hills and all those who were going to bowl, have wisely stayed at home.

So let’s remember yesterday, we had several visitors to the club, it is rare especially when everything has to be booked to have the public playing, but below is a photo of 4 very happy Bowlers, who, after being away from the game for over 4 months came up and had a couple of hours bowling, this year we have had several visitors to our club, which is very satisfying.

Its always nice to welcome members of the public to our green, this was the first outing since March for these fine bowlers.

Also on the rinks was a young lady called Arden, only 10 years old, after a few ends she was able to reach the ditch and produced some good shots that any bowler would have been proud of, see below.

Steve and Yvonne’s 10yo Granddaughter visited the green yesterday, after expert coaching this is what Arwen achieved

So if you feel like a roll – up just send an email via our contact us page and for only £5 you can have 2 hours of bowling (£10, if we provide the bowls)

Everything is sanitised and hand gel is available, all you need is flat shoes

Aussie Pairs Semi-Final, Friday 21st Aug 2020, 6pm

It stayed dry although after all the rain, the greens were a little heavy, In front of a few members both rinks had a good contest, winners on the night being

Mark and Martin S

Barry W and David.

Commiserations to Sheila, Martin G and Yvonne , Steve M

The date of the final to be fixed.

May I present the semi finalists of the Aussie Pairs
L to R Sheila, Barry, Martin G, Mark, Yvonne, Steve M, Martin S and David.
Any of you old enough to remember the Funky Chicken!
Looks like Steve M has cottoned on to the dance as well!, thankfully it looks like Yvonne is blissfully unaware of what is going on behind her.
Never take pictures of bowlers side on!  For a small donation to the club I can remove this from the Website!

Sunday 16th August 2nd Open Day

Last week it was very hot, a week later they forecast rain, but we were lucky, the weather was very good and we attracted quite a few visitors, resulting in a further 6 members, making a total of 19 this year. Jan, Roy and Pip, along with their helpers did a great job.

Thanks to all those who helped, it was a good day all round.

Below are some photos of the day

Last year we were playing Boules, now we have moved the date and the venue!

The Gazette and Herald have done it again, last year we were a Boules Club, this year they have moved our open day from a Sunday to a Saturday and not content with that they have relocated us to Beversbrook!

Anyway here is the article corrected by yours truly.

Bowling club holds second open day on Saturday (no it is Sunday) at Beversbrook 🤣(no we are at Anchor Road) after first success

CALNE Bowls Club held a successful Open Day on Saturday, with six new members and 12 interested referrals, and is looking forward to the second event this Saturday 🤷‍♀️ (no it is Sunday), (August 15) 🤷‍♂️ (No it’s August 16th), when they hope to encourage some more potential players to try the sport from 10am.

Secretary Stuart Beard said that the weather had been a little warm but everyone appeared to enjoy themselves, adding: “Fortunately, there were some family groups, so social distancing hadn’t become an issue. Booking is preferable either by email email hidden; JavaScript is required, or by phone to Men’s Secretary, Stuart, on 01225 706972, or Ladies’ Secretary, Janet, on 01249 816954.

“We did have a few visitors who just turned up on Saturday but we had some available slots and were able to give them a chance at this great game. We are beginning to be aware of a lot of untapped bowling talent in Calne, so come on give it a try, you may wonder why you haven’t tried it earlier.

“All you need is a pair of flat shoes and all other equipment will be supplied (suitably sanitised), so why not give it a try and find out what a great game bowls is.”

Details of our club and the Open Day are on the website:

I have emailed Beversbrook to ensure that anyone looking lost on Saturday should be direct to us on Sunday.
