A great big cheer for the 4 Ladies -Sheila Murphy, Mayumi Lewis, Sally Field and Yvonne McColl on reaching Leamington, they won 2 games but lost in the second round to Kent, all other teams they were against had not played in the preliminary round on Saturday our team had to play an extra game, but they did their best and we are proud of them.
Monday saw the final of the Mens 2 wood competition, between David Johns and Roy Jennings, with David running our winner 18-5.

On Tuesday our ladies in the Seidal Teams were playing at Devizes in their end of season Gala Day, Teams from the North and South were competing against each other, Due to the weather the ends were reduced to 12 instead of the 18. The Green team gave their opponents a good game and won, The Blue team started well but let opposition into the game. Despite the weather it was a good afternoon, followed with a tea. The organisers felt that the Blue team were unlucky in not winning a number of matches played and awarded them a medal for their efforts. By competing in this league you have highlighted it is great to see Calne Bowls Club spread over the North of the County.
In the evening Club night was the last one of the season, next week the Pat Watson Twilight Bowl, however the rain continued unabated and 4 dedicated bowlers took to the green, in the pouring rain they bowled for an hour and received a standing ovation from those watching.
The watchers had been engaged in putting up our new gazebo, which will need some adjustments to fit into the space we have, but at least the groundsmen will be happy as they can now access their domain without having to move anything.
Wednesday was the annual friendly against Wiltshire Masons, it was a lovely sunny day with some good bowling played in a friendly spirit as always. The match raised £150 and enabled us to make a donation to the Wiltshire Mason’s charitable fund. For the record book we drew the rinks 2-2 and won overall on shots 66-52, thanks go toto all those who involved in making the day such a success, particularly Pip and the ladies of the kitchen, as well as the cake makers. There will be a photo gallery set up once I get back from town!!
Also on Wednesday our ladies took part in the Lavender and Lace event at Chippenham Town. It was a great day and everyone enjoyed the day, especially as after it was overcast in the morning the sun shone through making a brilliant afternoon. A good lunch was served followed by a cream tea in the afternoon.
Thursday was the final of the Men’s 101 competition between Roy Jennings and Steve McColl, the result was a win for Steve 102 – 78.
